Meet Johann Skaftason.
He began his higher education in his home country of Iceland with a Journeyman’s Certificate in Masonry, a course of study which involves four years of technical and trade school in addition to an apprenticeship with a master mason.
He chose to come to Oklahoma in 1976 to broaden his knowledge base by studying to be an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic. While his mechanic studies taught him the fundamentals of bringing together moving parts, he found his real joy lay in creating. As a result, he put his knowledge of old world craftsmanship and machines to the task of innovation and business.
Eurocraft was born in December of 1976 as a stone, tile, and masonry company, but it was not until 1992 that Johann’s unfailing ability to rise to a challenge transformed Eurocraft into the marble and granite company it is today.
While constructing a fireplace, a customer requested granite countertops, and although Johann had no idea how to fabricate granite, he readily assured the customer that he could do it. He then proceeded to make it happen, as he has time and again since.
Johann rarely, if ever, says something cannot be done because at the end of the day, he loves creating and he loves to work. Today, what sets Johann apart is not only his extensive training and broad knowledge of masonry and stone fabrication, but his true ingenuity and craftsmanship.
